The results of the search for the SM Higgs boson performed at LEP at ECM up to 208 GeV are reported. Particular emphasis is given to experimental methods and to the statistical procedures used to obtain these results.

A discussion of the origin and of the significance of the slight excess reported by the ALEPH collaboration in y2k data is given.

The combination of the results of the four LEP experiments performed by the LEPHIGGS working group is also reported. Finally the implication of the LEP results on the running of TEVATRON and CERN accelerators in the incoming years is discussed.
