A selection of the main results from 12 years of LEP physics will be reviewed. I will concentrate on electroweak precision measurements with the Z and W bosons and what we have learned about the Higgs boson, on progress in QCD with light and heavy quarks, on advances in our understanding of the CKM matrix and on constraints on possible new physics. Despite the success of the SM, many questions are still open and leave challenges for the future.
